Crew Chiefs

Rosemary

How many moms can spend 3000 miles with two of her adult sons while they race (at 15 miles per hour) for an excellent cause?  When Marc and Patrick asked me to be part of Team Xtreme, I was humbled and honored to say “Yes” to this call to serve.  RAAM is so much larger than the ultimate distance race that it appears to be on the surface.  We are working as a team to safely reach the goal of the finish line and along the way we are making strides to make our world a better world.  This nine-member team is coordinating together with all our varying talents to bring our best qualities to the starting line. Marc and Patrick have been the catalyst showing us that, with each turn of that bicycle wheel, people are made aware of the treasure that those people living with Down’s syndrome are to this world.  With each turn of the bicycle wheel the research scientists are receiving funds to achieve the goal of curing the effects of Down’s on the daily lives of these precious people.  I am a very proud mother of two outstanding young men who bring us to a new level of giving.  Go Team Xtreme go!!

When Marc and Patrick indicated that they wanted to run the Race Across America, I did not immediately grasp the magnitude of the event, but as I read and went to preparation sessions, it really hit home that this was an opportunity of a lifetime for them and an incredible feat of courage and sportsmanship. What honor to have been asked to be co-crew chief, with my wife Rosemary, for such an event.

From the beginning we wanted this to be a family and very close friends affair, and running in honor of the Lejeune Foundation and our niece Brigid brings it even closer to the heart. I am so thankful of my two sisters and one cousin making the trip especially from France to be part of the crew, each with their skills and talents.

Patrick and Marc are biking over 1000 miles per month in preparation. Both are so determined, tough as nails, mentally and physically, and at the same time direct all this energy towards kindness and goodness. What a way to run your life, giving it all, keeping your eyes on what is good!

So the crew will also give its all, and I am a very happy and proud Daddy Dear :)
